I decided just a few moments ago that I needed to publish a blog post even if it isn't about anything in particular. The last time I took a sabbatical it was because I was in the early weeks of a pregnancy and I don't want anyone getting any ideas. ;)
Believe it or not, our simple little life has been pretty crazy lately. I have a lot of catching up to do and not much time to do it. I go back and forth between putting the blog on the back burner or making it a priority. It obviously isn't a top priority but it does deserve more attention because one day when we think about these years we'll wonder what exactly went on that made them so great?!
Between last minute company, last minute weekend getaways, dental appointments, a sick little boy, new responsibilities at work, shopping/planning for family pictures, enjoying the last of the nice weather, flu shots, etc. the days are really getting away from me.
I sit here with the computer in my lap and I see two dirty diapers rolled up on the floor, my lunch that has been reheated three times, and too many books and toys scattered about. I have positioned myself so that I can not see the pile of dirty dishes next to the sink and I can feel my phone vibrating next to me. Hopefully it's Erik replying to my message asking him to bring dinner home. :)
Speaking of Erik...he deserves a medal this week. I always try and make a conscious effort to make sure he feels we are both contributing equally to this little family, this week he is the most valuable player. These weeks are his busiest time of the year at work and he found out last week that he has been given new responsibilities and is taking on a different (much bigger) division. Talk about stress! On top of that, I woke up with a migraine Monday morning and he had to stay home until noon to take care of the kids. He worked late then came home in time to play with the kids, bathe them, and do the dishes while I put Thomas down. Last night he didn't sit down until both kids were asleep and he sat on the floor to soak, scrub and massage my feet. He does it with a smile too! While I was up feeding Nora in the night he was scrubbing poop out of her blanket. When Thomas woke up this morning Erik got up to play with him so I could sleep a few extra minutes. (he does this every morning) All I can say is I am one lucky wife and Thomas and Nora are lucky little kids to have that man for a daddy.
P.S. I did get a message from Erik, "I'm gonna have to put in a ton of hours next week. Would you be interested in staying up north for an extra few days? Or can you get help down here?" I feel bad he stresses about me getting help, we'll make it all work out!
I must get back to my house work while the kids are still napping. I promise one day I'll get caught up on all the fun things we've been up to. For now, just know we are loving our babies, we're grateful for employment and good health, and amid all dishes, laundry, diapers, snotty noses and frozen pizzas we are still happy! Happy Four Month Birthday to Miss Nora Mae!
